This notable park serves as a vital lung space for the bustling city, showcasing a rich collection of diverse flora and historic architecture. The zoo and park was opened in 1854. This public park was first named as Meade’s Park after Sir John Meade, the acting Commissioner of Mysuru in 1870 and finally renamed as Cubbon Park after the longest-serving commissioner of the time, Sir Mark Cubbon.

Near the terrace garden, statue of Major General Sir Mark Cubbon is situated. For instance, in one corner of the park, near the Mahatma Gandhi Circle statue, of Queen Victoria was installed in 1906 while the statue of King Edward VII was installed in 1919. According to Prevention Act, there cannot be any new construction in the park.

Later, in the year of  1927, it was again renamed as Sri Chamarajendra Park to mark the Silver Jubilee of Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar’s rule in Mysore State. Later it was renamed as Cubbon Park in the honor of the longest-serving commissioner of the time, Sir Mark Cubbon. Since its establishment, the park has gone through several name changes.
